Nothing Ever Does Poem by bob barci

Nothing Ever Does

I had a pleasant day.
Slept in late.
Leisured over breakfast.
Showered.
Played an album while dressing.
Ran some errands at nearby stores.
All this before
I settled at the shopping mall.
Splurged for a pair of pants.
Got spotted by an aunt and uncle.
Wandered around,
then had a light lunch.
Then wandered some more
before heading home.
Once there,
I packed a bag,
wrote a letter,
went to school to
pick up the kid.
A few more stops
and I was home again.
Double checked the bag,
and called for a taxi.
Taxi didn't show up,
so I missed my train.
Annoyed, I waited, a bit more.
Finally, I called the cab company.
'Where's my taxi? ',
I shouted to the dispatcher.
It showed up ten minutes later.
'Driver, if you drive like a maniac,
I'll make the next train.
It leaves in 5 minutes.'
He made a noble attempt,
but I still missed the train - again.
This ain't turning out like I wanted.
But, then, nothing ever does.
