Nothing More Poem by Janine Alyssa Navarro

Nothing More

You say it’s unselfish but I beg to differ
I wouldn’t agree to your twisted angles
Of love and its wars of indifference
No, it was all just appealing fabrication.

Nothing more.

I said it was over before it even breathed
You disagreed because it was a dawning
Of hope and embracing tiny million things
No, you said, it will surpass now and forever.

Nothing more.

You say chances stay for the taking
I wouldn’t agree because I was cynical
Of the lies and corroding contracts
No, nothing exists to not tire and cease.

Nothing more.

I said love was nothing but a false belief
You went on about hope and tomorrow
I chose silence as my response
No, you were blinded from the picture before you.

Nothing more.

You said all those things
I listened with both mind and heart
But you paid no heed to what was right here
No, you preached far instead of here and now.

I could have given you so much more.

But that is what you never saw coming
It’s what you never realized to see
No, I’ve given you more than all you believed
But that’s what you’ll never know.

Nothing more.
