O dear o damn
so badly timed;
our petty ways
have us in a bind.
O dear o damn
it's all in vain;
unnecessary strife
and gratuitous pain
at the edge of joy,
an extinguished light.
We're yearning for the blue
plundered dream,
that long-ago you,
now a vanished gleam.
O dear o damn
no way to get it back;
we're in arrears,
falling down
through the years.
O dear o damn
we tried to get it back
but I don't think we will.
There's a fatal lack
in the time we kill.
