Oh, The Rain Keeps Knocking, Softly On My Door Poem by Aldo Kraas

Oh, The Rain Keeps Knocking, Softly On My Door

Oh, the rain keeps knocking, softly on my door,
April's weeping rivers, flooding dreams once more.
Not a single sunrise, not a glimpse of gold,
Father, where's the warmth that these bones can hold?
Let the sun break free, let it come and stay,
Wash away the greys, light a brighter day.
Father, hear my soul, it's longing endlessly,
For the glow of life, for some sweet vitamin D.
The sky wears a cloak of heavy, ashen sighs,
Tired of this drizzle, tired of shaded skies.
Father, I must rest now, let me drift and dream,
To escape this sorrow, flowing in a stream.
Let the sun break free, let it come and stay,
Wash away the greys, light a brighter day.
Father, hear my soul, it's longing endlessly,
For the glow of life, for some sweet vitamin D.
Wake me at noon when the light might be kind,
When warmth slips a smile through the shutters' blind.
The grey weighs me down, steals the song from my air,
Father, just this once, won't you answer my prayer?
Let the sun break free, let it come and stay,
Wash away the greys, light a brighter day.
Father, hear my soul, it's longing endlessly,
For the glow of life, for some sweet vitamin D.
Oh, Father, let it shine, let the shadows pass by,
Let the warmth kiss the world under a clear, blue sky.
Let us rise with the sun, let our hearts break the chain,
No more grey, no more sleep, no more sorrowful rain.
