One Last Time Poem by Gauri Gupta

One Last Time

I open my eyes,
And find myself cradled
In the arms of emptiness
Engulfed in a lifeless void
I lay on the bed,
Dull and motionless
Dried tears cover my face
As I breathe, to find myself alive

Memories come and go,
Of times long forgotten
The pictures on the wall
Fade and crumble
I try to hold on, to the last fragment
I try to hold on, to the last breath

Wild laughter pierces the silence
It takes a moment, as I realize its my own
She moves in slowly, mocking me
She caresses me gently, and takes me in
I do not resist nor fight the madness
And she and I become one finally

I close my eyes, one last time
I see her face, one last time
Ever smiling, my angel
I reach out to touch her
To hold her and kiss her,
I whisper the words, one last time
Until we meet again, my love
Until we meet, one last time
