One Love Poem by Minnie Gehrig

One Love

I am pondering fidelity,
so far fetched for me,
one love,
so much bigger than two bodies,
how am i to rewrite myself.
into this scene,
apple pie eyed american dream,

adoring mother,
submissive wife,
always looking plastic perfect,
work full time and keep it together now,

homework laundry,
cook cook clean,
and then find the time to bend on bruised knees,
show your husband what a man he is.

i want to be free
the newest version of american woman is me,
single mom,
juggling it all
work play- foot the bills,
but I will here no-one say
where you been what you doing bend over,
give it up!

cause what bore me my daughter
i coulda bought in a cup,
and I owe you nothing,
no strings are attached to me from you,
that say i am yours
i have no thoughts no opinions no yearnings of my own,

infedelity bought me freedom from the chains you offered,
dangling from some encircled diamond,
promices tangled enscripted in the little writing,
one love,
ya babe mine,
open your mouth and give it up.
