Only If Poem by Ihsan Musthafa

Only If

Rating: 4.0

There came angels and dreams
As a child innocent from worldly pollution
A time when the mind retained free of constipation
Nevertheless the meridian of these words
I pray for you and for me
Picasso said 'If only we could pull out our brain
And use only our eyes'
Doubtless you know most of thy pain
Is devised by our own fractured designs
Whether anyone contrives the optimum of these words
I pray for you and for me
I stood a time ago on the zenith of my dreams
Fearless and bold, not bothered by the malignant world
I wonder now that the years have withered me
'Where have you gone to? ', I hear myself call
Even if it matters not any these words
I pray for you and for me

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Inspired by the quotes by Pablo Picasso; 'If only we could pull out our brain and use only our eyes'

And Kahlil Gibran's quote; 'Much of your pain is self-chosen.
It is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self. Therefore trust the physician, and drink his remedy in silence and tranquility: For his hand, though heavy and hard, is guided by the tender hand of the Unseen, And the cup he brings, though it burn your lips, has been fashioned of the clay which the Potter has moistened with His own sacred tears.'
