Open Roads Poem by Rizwan Saleem

Open Roads

Roads taken for escape
Of use no more
Burnt bridges like relics
Stand a stark reminder
Nothing is permanent
Maybe except for woes of time
Ashes fall like snow
Blades of grass now grow
Over paths that were so sure
Would lead to bliss
Unwind now back in a vicious circle
With a difference this time
One stands at the beginning
One crossed over to the end.
If all things missed
Could be put in one last kiss
Why flowers are put on graves
As symbols of pity and sorrow
Wither in days, loose color and fragrance
No headstones needed
Some roses are seeded
For a singular purpose
For deaths like these are oft repeated
