Open Skies Poem by Laura Russell

Open Skies

Open skies
pour happiness into my eyes
Replacing woe with joy
Life is so good.

Closed eyes
open when your head is raised to the sky
Replacing dark with light
Joyful souls unite.

Open eyes
see everything beyond the scenery
Deeper than oceans
Higher than mountains.

Closed eyes
see nothing
beyond the eyelids
A sunless soul is an undernourished soul.

Open souls
feel life like heartbeats
Flowing continuously
in a neverending cycle of continuity.

Closed souls
feel life like a hollow tree
Empty as a honeyless hive
Stagnant as dry lakes.
