It's hard to watch them suffer
We know that they're in pain
Yet they will stand defensively
Time and Time again
It's hard to make that call
The one that says goodby
To contemplate our life
Without them by our side
To some they are defenders
To other's company
They look to us for care and love
They give their's so freely
Yet we must do what's right
We must put aside our grief
To let them go with dignity
To give them sweet relief
We know they'll live forever
In that place we call our heart
Our friend, our comfort till the end
So we must do our part
