To some they're simply animals
These creatures we call pets
They take no care about their health
Or take them to a vet
To others they're not animals
They're family you see
They take a place that's in our heart
And fill it totally
They freely give their love, their all
They do it without guile
They look to us so trustingly
Their antics make us smile
They're first to welcome
us back home
The last to watch us leave
And if we're gone a day or two
All they do is grieve
It's hard to picture life without
These creatures we call pets
They're so much more than animals
They're place is firmly set
So when we lose our special friend
The one that's always there
We've lost a portion of our heart
The one that always cared
