Over There Poem by verna ralph

Over There

He goes into battle over there
Lays his life on the liine
To fight for another country
Do what he think is right
To end the suffering and the painI
In a world of confustion and trife

Leaving his native land
He is only a pup
Just out of school
He has just begun to fly
Right out of the nest
Into the war zone

He fought the enemy
In the wet and cold
Bathe in the blood of his friends
Watch his friends fall
One by one
Never to rise again

They are bringing him home today
Draped in his countries flag
Gave up his life
Made his country proud
He has made a difference
Lost of a love one

He had high expectations
Be a doctor one day
Raise a family
Grow old gracefully
The best was yet to be

He was somebodies child
With hopes and dreams
To be blown to bits
By a road side bomb
Wasn, t in the plan
Now he is in Gods hands

I hope they know over there
The sacrafice this country has made
To fight for peace and freedom
In this world today
Giving up my pride and joy
My little girl and boy
