Oz? Poem by Howard Osborne

Oz?

OZ

A week away, and that's all it was
A trip that I felt was well overdue
No particular reason, just because
I'm glad to be home now, it's true
It is a long journey back from Oz
From now I'll take a different view

It didn't turn out quite as planned
Yet no attempt was ever thwarted
Finding myself in this fantasy land
And with my itinerary not sorted
Only control freaks do understand
No tornados, but still transported

A few mad characters I met there
Each with stories to share with me
It was a technicolored weird affair
Creating such a beautiful tapestry
As if they all had time to prepare
Showing the signs of their anxiety

There was a man stuck on a pole
In a field with straw in his gizzard
A guy in armour, a heart his goal
It was sunny weather, no blizzard
One was leonine, a nervous soul
But we were off to see the wizard

Some of the experience was gritty
Other parts unrealistic, like I said
It was a dream I think, and a pity
Coming round to wake in my bed
A Yellow road and Emerald City
Were all mere images in my head

Oz?
