Pacific Rim Poem by Marcel Aouizerate

Pacific Rim

He realizes,
Although it must be obvious to many,
That until the seventies,
Science fiction talked about a brilliant future
Full of amazing technologies and
New ways of organizing society.

Nowadays, watching a sci-fi movie feels like
Reading a page torn from a
Repetitive dictionary which
Sole word would be:
'Armageddon'.

As time flows,
We get inexorably closer to apocalypse,
It's the doomsday clock
Ticking until no more.
Better stop and turn around, if we can.

Utopia however stands squarely on the horizon,
The further we walk towards it, the further it recedes,
We get no closer.

That's what's been lost,
That's what he finds frustrating:

Utopia taught us how to walk,
Apocalypse frightens us to a standstill,
Now go watch Pacific Rim.
