Palimpsest Poem by Sheldon Carruthers

Palimpsest

My heart strives to learn
I do not want to burn for heresies untold
but how will life unfold
The cream floats to the top
but the higher you go the harder you drop
Death stalks me like a hunter with a bow
but no one knows the fierceness of life like the hunted knows
