Pencil That Light Corridors Poem by PROMISE ITA OKPOHOUDEME

Pencil That Light Corridors

As a boy my heart leaps
And long to reach the setting Sun
Shinning above every hairs
In future, I'll dress humble, complete son

As a boy I drew with fingers on earth
When rain felt, erosion washed memories away
I cried, wept, for I've lost my wealth
Which couldn't dine the next day

At five, a Teacher apprehended me to chalk and blackboard
Where I couldn't write on dust but in mind
My fingers were fastened to the HB pencils
Leading me through corridors.

Today, I am a flowing ink
Education rises daily to think.
