Pets In The City Poem by Terry Hoffman

Pets In The City

A barking dog across the street,
one under my window.
They wake me up at 6 A.M.
It's the city, don't you know?

Every time they let them out,
they bark and howl and moan.
Why on earth you'd have a dog
and then leave him out alone?

I try to feed the birds outside;
they get hungry too.
Stray cats come and chase them off;
what am I to do?

I have no dog, just my cat,
inside from dawn 'til dawn.
So then why must I remove
dog poop from my lawn?

If you think you want a pet,
think again before you do.
They can annoy the guy next door,
make him a foe of you.
