POEM WITH CAT



. . . like a disdainful divinity

Jorge Luis Borges
Like the cat
the poem denies itself caresses.
It plays
it moves whimsically
it searches for the highest place
it jumps
it rejects the unsheltered place
it descends
it scents
it scratches
it keeps away carrion
ashes
it silently leaves solitude
and the word.
