There's a guy there who thinks he's the Devil,
he tries to act macho and bad,
but really he ain't that satanic
cos really he's lonesome and sad.
That Devil he once met an Angel,
well anyway, that's how she seemed,
and she made him feel good for the first time
with a love that was just how he'd dreamed.
Poor Devil, why are you so blue?
How come it's so bad being you?
You do as you please, so you say.
So how come you're crying today?
Well, the Devil he fell for that Angel,
who wasn't as good as he thought
cos her halo got hooked on her hang-ups
which made her yell, ‘Mission abort! '
The Angel she wanted that Devil,
so much that she couldn't see straight.
But true love don't seem to come easy
and trouble was lying in wait.
Poor Devil, why are you so blue?
How come it's so bad being you?
You do as you please, so you say.
So how come you're crying today?
The preachers crawled out of the woodwork
and stated the case for restraint.
The Angel withdrew from the conflict,
pretending to be what she ain't.
She yelled at the Devil in anger
and cut at his heart till it bled.
She vowed she would see him in Hades.
then realised what she had said.
Poor Devil, why are you so blue?
How come it's so bad being you?
You do as you please, so you say.
So how come you're crying today?
The Angel went back to the boredom
of goodness without any aim.
And each day she vowed to be different
but each night she came home the same.
Still burning with anger and passion,
he cursed every day he'd been born,
cos till he met up with the Angel,
that devil had never had horns.
