Portrait Gallery: Fauve Pas Poem by Chuck Toll

Portrait Gallery: Fauve Pas

Rating: 5.0

In 1961, art lovers in
New York were all aglow:
Their own Museum of Modern Art
Had bought and planned to show
Henri Matisse’s masterpiece
Entitled Le Bateau.

This painting overnight became
The talk of all the town.
Forty-seven days of raves,
Then someone with a frown
Looked closer and saw that it
Was hanging upside down.
