Portrait Of Ruin Poem by Nkwachukwu Ogbuagu

Portrait Of Ruin

Stone walls have fallen,
Alongside them the foot-bridge
Over the silken, gleaming stream

Submerged by wailing soils,
Ancestral pillars bow to the
Pressures of aged boulders

Rain is betrayed by lightning,
And with potent razors sharper
Than whetted axes,

The flashing light cuts through the bloodline,
Assailing common kindreds
With debris of disunity.

Look!
There's verdigris on the faces of
The pennies and farthings.
