Power Over Pain Poem by Scott McQueen

Power Over Pain

Have you called upon the reaper
As you cried from all the pain?
Have you forced a broken smile
Whenever you've heard your name?

Have you locked up all your doors
And hidden in your room?
Have you closed up all the curtains
And not let the sunlight through?

I once cried for the reaper
And closed myself away
And forced a broken smile
Like curtains to hide my pain

But then, in time, I realized
I did this to myself
No one made me smile
No one locked me in that Hell

They can call you names
Or they can walk on by
But if you do not listen
You'll never need to cry

We do not have the power
To control what others do
But if you focus hard enough
They have no control on you
