Professor Amos Sez - Poem by D E Navarro

You little thingamajig
with your single anode
arcing across space
to the mercury-pool cathode

Did you think
you could rectify power?

Oh, you did.

Well, I never liked electronics
neither you Radio Shack geeks
nor Professor Sez, so

In lab I would whisper
to my classmates
'ignore Amos Sez.'

And he would always laugh
tell me some day
I would understand
what an ignitron I was.

Poet's Notes about The Poem

ignitron - noun - (electronics) a type of controlled rectifier; a cathode-arc vacuum tube with an auxiliary electrode projecting into a pool of mercury that conducts current when the anode is positive; used to convert AC power to DC power
