Proposal Poem by Imogene Wagner

Proposal

Darling, I could secret my eyes
And weight the answer in disguise,
I could regard my shoes and wait
To make you guess your final fate,
I could withhold my hand a bit
From tightening the yes of it,
I could discuss the weather man
While you perplex my heart's last plan,
I could be casual without haste
To hold this precious time to taste,
But quickly “YES”, I'm not unkind,
Besides – what if you'd change your mind.

(October 1948)
