Proud Flesh Poem by Sally A Mortemore

Proud Flesh

From out of the mouth of a graze
births a granulated tissue head —
a hypertrophic alien,
mutant and muling,
authority deemed from its point of intrusion.
This raw pink cranium of proud flesh
taunts on every movement,
its cellular components enlarging daily —
the engorged wound
wide and weeping with defeat
at its failure
to keep this wild child
hidden …
