Psalm 144 Poem by Frank McEleny

Psalm 144

Blessed is the Lord my God
Who equips me for the fight
Who delivers me from every foe
Who saves me from the darkest night

What is man that you mind him Lord?
That you would die to set him free
I thank you that you took my place
On the battle-field of Calvary

For you made man your crowning glory
And then he turned his back on you
But you would not abandon him
You would do what you had to do

You bent the heavens and came down
You mercy flowed from heaven above
You conquered death and broke the chains
That set Him free by your shed blood

Mans life on earth is very short
It's like a passing shadow
He must grasp the truth while yet there's light
For he is here today and gone tomorrow

And the truth shall surely set him free
And a new song he will sing
Of his happiness and joy to serve
The Christ, the risen King
