Purple Heart Poem by Nick F. Hawkins

Purple Heart

I used to wear my
Purple Heart on my
Sleeve until my shirts
Became sleeveless,
Sewing the sole to
My soul before my
Heartbeat freezes,
I found peace from
My spiritual seamstress
Instead of being broken
Into pieces,
Now that my shirts
Are sleeveless,
I no longer feel the
Frequent breezes that
Blew my past into
Cursed, winter seasons
