Quilt Poem by Imogene Wagner

Quilt

She rested on the hill above the graves
And smiled in the moment's consecration,
To find that death proclaimed its time in shades
Variant as the grass blades recreation;
In darker greens, lighter greens, and browns
The patches ripened side by side to wed
The neat squared coffin size of each color
Into a quilt to cover up the dead.

(October 1948)
