Raft Poem by Mohammad Yousef

Raft

By Mohammad A. Yousef

Drifting down the river,
where the water whispers tales,
our future lies on a raft,
gathered like driftwood,
floating with laughter,
and the spark of adventure.

Around us, the sepia pages,
of Mark Twain's wild dreams,
breeze through the leaves,
each word a small current,
pulling us forward,
through twists and turns,
into the unknown.

Underneath a sky that holds
the weight of old stories,
we search for stars
that still sing of freedom,
cast away from muddy shores,
seeking treasures unseen,
just beyond the bend.

Every wave that rocks us
is a heartbeat of courage,
echoing through time,
reminding us to embrace
the broken roads we travel,
and the river that refuses to stand still.

On the raft, we play cards,
sharing secrets in the sun,
with laughter skimming
the surface of dreams,
our hopes drifting like croakers,
swimming toward a light
that glows with promise,
in the tender embrace of twilight.

Together, we face the currents,
the waters that sway and swirl,
the challenges that challenge,
learning to hold each other firm,
like Twain taught us to navigate,
the bends and twists of life—
a compass of kindness,
a map woven from the threads
of shared stories and shared struggles.

We gazed into the depths,
ever mindful of the shadows,
but the horizon calls us louder,
its colors blending like voices,
each one urging us to find
our own rhythm, our own flow.

So here we sail,
to explore what's to come,
with the spirit of adventure in our hearts,
our future unfurling like a sail,
ready to catch the wind's song,
celebrating every ripple,
every drop, every voice,
as we discover that life,
like Twain's river,
is beautiful, wild,
and truly ours to take.
