Reality/Duality Poem by asef fakih

Reality/Duality

The persistent sunshine etched into my brain
I struggle for a little dark
the acerbic taste, of some Arabic wine
initiates an internal spark.

I walk alone, along shores of the broken homes,
stand alone during the night.
For the weather somewhere deep into the south
offers an ensuring plight.

For a dreamer I sure stay awake too much
and too less I drink the wine,
for a cynic, I sure see dreams with too much color
and, expect intervention divine.

Drifters like me, don't really get to choose
pain is all the wine we need.
For our lights never fade, in the darkest of nights
in a way it's ironical indeed.

Poetry is cynical, cynical to life
it defies the gravity of reality
and as for the hopes, the light, the dreams
put into question by the duality.
