Reason Poem by Nicole Rawls

Reason

I don't want to be the reason
that your tears fall onto your cheeks,

I don't want to be the reason.

I don't want to be the reason
that your heart pound so hard that
it nearly cracks through your chest.

I don't want to be the reason.

I don't want to be the reason
that the voices attack you because
you are so sick with worry.

I want to be the reason
that you break out into laughter
when you cannot find your smile.

I want to be the reason.

I want to be the reason
that your eyes fill with tears of
happiness instead of sadness.

I want to be the reason.

I want to be the reason
that your mind, body and soul are
at ease.

I want to be the reason.
