Recollections Of Swallows Poem by Charl JF Cilliers

Recollections Of Swallows

I thought suddenly
of a shower of swallows shaken
out of the sky
like crumbs from a white table
cloth of sunlight:

immediately embarrassed by
that lofty image

as the crumbs of our words,
shaken while the table
was cleared,

fell to the ground
unlike the birds.
