(Is it reasonable to assume that extra-terrestrials will be any more welcoming to strangers than we are?)
We finally made it to Mars -
The Little Green Men were not happy.
'Go Home! ' they said,
'Go back where you came from! '
They put up notices -
'No Dogs! No Earthlings! '
Desperately we pleaded our case-
'If we go back we will die.
Our planet is wrecked;
Environmental Catastrophe!
Over-population!
Endless Wars and Conflict!
Persecution of Minorities!
Greed!
Corruption!
Inequality!
Plague and Pestilence! '
It cut no ice -
They hardened their little green hearts,
'Your problem! ' they said.
'You fucked it up!
You fix it! '
'It wasn't us' we wailed,
'It was the others.
We are model citizens.'
Still no ice was severed.
'Go Home! ' they repeated,
'You Earthlings are all the same,
Always trying to lay the blame on someone else.
Your sort aren't welcome -
We don't need you
screwing up our well-ordered society
with your ancient feuds
and religious intolerance.
Read our little green lips -
GO HOME! '
