Regrets Poem by Danladi Tauhid

Regrets

Once at the university
And in my youth
There was this girl I admired
I was never able to tell her
It was just enough sitting in the library
Busy over books
with blurred prints
Looking over the top
To see if she is watching me
Stealing a look at her
It almost became a routine
She would always be there
And there was I feeling good
Her sitting across the lanes
The lanes that separated our seats
But am sure not our little secret
Once I caught her looking from under a book
Over her face
And directly at me!
I was almost enthralled
Just sitting there
Never making to talk
But wish I would
I stopped short at shouting her name
I always tell my close friend
There is the throb of my heart
As she make to pass us
Upstairs to the library
Such a lonely being I was
And today I wonder
Where she's at and what she's doing
Such a life and such a time
I want to lie me down for a while
The youth is gone and the time is frail.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Where dose admiration begin and where does love take over? The youth is a cauldron of adventure, beauty and hope. The fecundity of the mind is unimaginable.
