Religion Poem by Maya Trowborst

Religion

Rating: 5.0

Religion causes nothing but trouble
To me at least...
It is the thing that makes tensions rise and bubble
In the north, south, west and east.

We are all entitled to our own beliefs
Our own faiths and dreams
Yet all religion has given me is griefs?
And simple yet precise tears at the seams

The seams of our humanity
Our morals being stripped clean!
Just as our sanity!
As we follow a higher power who has yet to be seen?

Faith should be about love, hope, and peace...
Yet why is it that most faith i've seen show nothing but ignorance and hate?
I want nothing more than this chaos to cease!
But i'm afraid that's going to be a long wait.

Now don't get me wrong
There are some good people out there.
Who have been waiting for the world to finally get along,
There are those who care...

Not all religion is bad
Some things are misunderstood
For the things we keep and had
Aren't always the things we should

History is history, regardless of the pain
We must learn from our past.
So we move on and accept the now, regardless of the rain
And realize that this time, this "now" is different from the last.
