Remember Me Poem by Zoe Guillory

Remember Me

I can never remember.
I've grown accustomed to my lack of memory.
I've grown accustomed to hearing the same story
over and over, and each day it is new.
And my memory is fading.
And I see people and places that I once knew,
but now are not even familiar to me.
I walk alone down an endless path.
I don't remember where I am going
or where I am from.
But I walk on. No rests. I've stumbled,
I assume, for I have scratches and bruises
on my hands and down my legs.
But I am not hurt,
for I cannot remember.
But then I see you. Walking towards me.
Slowly. Calmly.
And I know you, I know that I do.
Yet I don't remember.
And you watch me as I watch you
when we pass each other by.
Because I know you.
And you know me.
