Remember Me Poem by Ishmael Onserio

Remember Me

Remember me friend when the sun's light is above your head,
Remember me when you bathe in The Euphrates' cool flows,
Remember me when the moon's darkened side stares at me,
At the pinnacle of my youthful living with entreating desires,
That set base for my downfall and gear my slack feet to flee,
Remember me at the darkest hour as I live among the dead,
Remember me when man of hate surrounds this territory,
Just remember to call my name at that night before the siege,
Let me be your steppingstone from the poor old man's cot,
Remember me as your persecutors slide their teeth like a leech,
Remember me as you lay to sleep in silence in your dying slot,
Remember me when door knocks are heightened like in banditry,
In the that brutal wake, when this life is mesmerized by sublimity,
When the doors of hell open wide in readiness for your ingress,
That is when I will need your prayers and presence in my realm,
For that will be the prime moment's only plea in my principality,
When this feeble life gets that key awakening, dazzling emblems,
Even so, remember me as I long for the coming rebirth like an elm.
