Remembrance Poem by Mary Champion

Remembrance

I found a love that reset my whole life,
overturning all I once believed.
A heart-quake undermined my sanity -
its tremors still reverberate and jar
the tranquil stillness that I sometimes find.
The tumult oft returns to haunt my dreams
and steal the balance from the days ahead.
My soul emerged expanded by the depth
of wisdom I encountered, in the Hell
that followed on the merciless goodbye.
The pain is almost gone, but the regrets
still cast their shadows, blotting out the sun
and still I wonder, in the early hours,
how troubled is the object of my love?
Perhaps his heart survives it all unscathed.
Perhaps I never cross his memory.
