Reunion Poem by Thomas Noel Smith

Reunion

Rushing people everywhere
To destinations all unknown.
Surging forward to who knows what?
Into the bleating herd they’ve gone

Faces from my memory
Faces from the past
I fear them and their vapid eyes
I stand away from them, aghast

Time walks boldly in our midst
But none can see him pass.
He quietly walks and touches all
Taking our youth…alas!

Farewell to music and to song
Goodbye to lasting love
Adieu to beauty and to dreams
Farewell to stars above.

The life we knew when we were young
Has left and danced away
Childhood friends we thought we knew
Were here for just today.

Rushing people everywhere
To destinations all unknown
And I stand alone in shadows deep
Are these the seeds I’ve sown?
