Reunion Poem by Mary Champion

Reunion

In your infancy induced ignorance
you never could have understood the cause -
the monstrous outbreak of malevolence
that gave birth to their diabolic laws.
But you would have felt it - have felt the fear.
You would have sensed the terror all around;
the moaning and the wailing you would hear
and been infected by the grievous sound.
You would have screamed for comfort and relief,
your tiny heart have struck a panicked beat.
And there was one, who scarcely could perceive
much more than you of their insane conceit,
but with her warm embrace she eased the chill
and now you find she brings you comfort still.
