Those were the days of innocence and ignorance
And all the eyes that couldn't see
Except that part inside of me
That saw too clearly for my peace of mind.
But I ignored that secret voice inside my head,
I followed where my reason led
Then saw, too late, my reasoning was blind.
My stifled soul wept to be free,
But still my mind refused to see.
In arrogance and ignorance
I looked for my deliverance.
Ignoring all the mystical
I idolised the physical.
I dared my sobbing heart to do its worst.
Then one dark day a bubble at the spirit level burst.
And then I saw that I'd been right,
That Science is the brightest light,
Clear common sense must have its say
If Humankind will have its way.
Yet I had been so wrong in part;
I foolishly ignored the heart-
Without it all the reason is in vain.
Without it we will never rise again.
But save we breathe in reason with each breath
That crazy heart will beat itself to death.
