River Bird Poem by Gbolabo Adetunji

River Bird

River bird, river bird

What bothers you today

I wish the bittern would think

That my pitch was loud as it goes

River bird, river bird

What bothers you today

I wish the coot would think

That my beak was white as snow

River bird, river bird

What bothers you today

I wish the curlew would think

That my legs were long as a mile

River bird, river bird

What bothers you today?

I wish the crane would think

My neck was high as the hill.

River bird, river bird

What bothers you today

I wish the duck would think

My feet were webbed and wholesome

River bird, river bird

What bothers you today

I wish the ibis would think

I would be cool in the tropics.

River bird, river bird

What bothers you today

I wish the kingfisher would think

I am adorned with blue and orange

River bird, river bird

What bothers you today

I wish the cygnet would think

I was white and cool as others

River bird, river bird

What bothers you today

I wish that you will think through

Why you bother as much as me
