Rock 'n' Soul Music Poem by Mary Champion

Rock 'n' Soul Music

Well, the King of Rock'n'Roll
met the ancient Queen of Soul,
and she looked him in the eye,
and she said ‘You're just the guy.
and I think we'll make sweet music
honey baby, if we try.'

They played some great duets
and she whispered to him, ‘Let's
get real close and harmonise,
let me feel that spirit rise.
Cos I think we'll make sweet music, '
but he saw it otherwise.

The King of Rock'n'Roll was running scared,
forgot about those golden hits they shared.
The Ancient Queen of Soul's too hot to hold.
The King of Rock went back into the cold.

So the King of Rock'n'Roll
got himself into a hole
cos he thought he could break free
from that old close harmony.
But the Ancient Queen of Soul just sang him love songs endlessly.

The Ancient Queen of Soul, she won't let go.
She wants to have him starring in her show.
The King of Rock'n'Roll don't stand a chance.
The Queen of Soul is hell-bent on Romance.

The Ancient Queen of Soul
got the King of Rock'n'Roll.
Then she rang those wedding bells,
and she whispered, ‘Something tells
me we're gonna make sweet music, honey-baby, mine. Or Else! '

The King of Rock'n'Roll has got it down
that electronic jewel shines in his crown.
And all the hearts that music ever stole
are beating for the Ancient Queen of Soul.
