Rubáiyát Of Omar Khayyám

Rating: 2.9

I
AWAKE! for Morning in the Bowl of Night
Has flung the Stone that puts the Stars to Flight:
And Lo! the Hunter of the East has caught
The Sultan's Turret in a Noose of Light.

II
Dreaming when Dawn's Left Hand was in the Sky
I heard a Voice within the Tavern cry,
"Awake, my Little ones, and fill the Cup

Before Life's Liquor in its Cup be dry."

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Rubaiyat number 1,14,32,51 and 72 are extremely touching my heart and I have learnt them by heart. I recollect days of my youth by reciting them whenever I am sad or depressed. They help in freshening my mood. I like these Rubaiyat very much.

My father, Samuel Kaswell, took a summer of his youth and memorized this entire poem-and recited it to me and my sister on the drive home from a Brooklyn Dodgers' ballgame one Sunday in 1950..it took over an hour-and incited a life-long love of poetry by the both of us. Happy Birthday Ros!
