Say No To Femicide Poem by Mulunda Silingi Phelix Nasiombe

Say No To Femicide

I care not of what they say, womenfolk tell
Tell them that I am whore
For who cares? I care not
Tell them I am a street one
For I care not
Call me kiberiti ngoma or the tunnel
I care not. Anyway, who cares?
Do you care? Aren't you the man?
The man that only knows to abuse a woman
A man who hits me when I come home at 7pm
A man who locks me out when I come home at 9pm.
A man who announces he married a Malaya when I have a late meeting.
I am not lamenting
Neither am I tired of your drunken noisy
Neither am I tired of weak slaps
Am I not your wife?
Doesn't the word wife mean a lesser human being?
That it is you my husband who has total freedom
You can sleep anyway and no one beats you
You can come home at midnight
But no one should ask you
You can can carry women smell on your shirt
And their lip-colour on your smoky lips
But I have no right to say anything
I have no right to correct you my husband
I have no right to advise you
That you are the master of wisdom
Yet you are tearing me apart
Aren't your actions giving birth to femicide?
If I die of ulcers, won't it be femicide?
If I die of stress, won't it be femicide?
I mean, I need a fair husband
The one who loves me
The one who appreciates me
The one who loves his children
The one who cares for our family
The one who prays for our family
The one who takes me out
The one who values what I do
Otherwise, I am getting tired
Am almost tired
My heart is losing you
My head is forgetting you
My hands can no longer fondle you
My lips can no longer kiss you
My waist is reluctant to warm our bed
My husband, I am now crying
I am crying for my children
For am worried of femicide stories
Now, you have one chance
A single choice, to change and love me
It is a single chance, to show your love
Maybe, I will love you again.
