from 'While Passing Through'/Summer
Hummingbird takes off
as the hawk looms over—
he left the safety
of his perch
on a yucca's wicked point.
Now I get it - the yucca has pointy leaves (or thorns?) . That was a safe place because the hawk wouldn't come so near it? I have one variety of yucca on my windowsill but didn't know what it was called. Thanks for the lesson.
this particular yucca rises more than ten feet, and its leaves are like swords. i guess this is kind of a stretch, but, being me, i relate this to us and what scripture warns about the fear of man. as always, i appreciate your reading and commenting, laurie. -glen

A meticulously thoughtful write.... appreciated
Thanks, Dillip. We have lots of Cooper's hawks in my neighborhood, but only reading about it from a favorite author did I realize what the passing shadow overhead of a hawk does to most other birds. -Glen
