Scoop Poem by The Poet SPIEL

Scoop

deep in sleep
i wake abruptly to an entity unseen
but with presence enough to squeak the springs
as he sits down beside my body

his specter is physical enough to sink my cot
but i sense that he's benign and i am not afraid
though i am otherwise alone
and surrounded by the night

this spirit does not speak yet i feel his attendance
that he is here with me
and this is not at all a dream in sleeping
i am awake and staring

i wonder what he wants of me
until i recognize an instrument of stainless steel
cupped the same size as an egg
the cup halved and honed to a sharpness

i can't imagine how it could be honed so sharp
nor why

then in a wink this benign entity
scoops one testicle from me
but leaves the other

i feel no pain

and just as he appeared in mystery
my cot rises and he is gone
