Scraped Knee Poem by Ellie Foe

Scraped Knee

You scared me
With your face
In the dark abyss.

The light pulsing down
On your highlights.
The dark shining down
On your concaves

I didn't expect you to be here
With me.
I didn't know the dark could be so scary.

I saw it,
In one split second
There was no light on your face.

My heart beat once.
Yours beat twice.
Or did it beat at all?

Fell back,
Looked up,
You standing there
Laughing.

Your teeth,
Glowing in the blackness
Your teeth
Seem to darken the pavement more.
Your teeth
Like stars that remind me of night.

Why do you smile at my screams?
Why do I smile back?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I didn't write this poem in a dark time. I wrote it to represent a toxic friendship that you can't seem to hate but you know you should. I would love to know what it means to you...(comment below) .
