Scrum Poem by Robbie Brereton

Scrum

Rating: 4.0

Once more dear brothers
stumbling, bumbling into the fray,
mud splatters as shoulders clatter,
ripping limb from limb, racing to last play.

Shift the egg, once more, more,
tearing down the line, twisting,
turning, cramped calf’s gurning,
step in, you’re injured at half time.

Ready ready, once more in,
welted imprints of a split shin,
cursing, nursing, crying out,
another ‘Monster ball’ goes the shout.

On your feet, look alive,
squat and lock, no time to hide,
bindings on, shoulders in, the
punctured ground will sing our hymn.
