Sea Change Poem by June Stepansky

Sea Change

I am allergic to scallops.
Therapy will not help me.
Medication will not ameliorate it.
Meditation cannot change it.
Many people can enjoy scallops,
but I am not one of them.
It is hard for me to accept
that there are things about myself
which I will never be able to change.
I know that one day I must acknowledge
my particular and peculiar uniqueness,
like my allergy to scallops, and
be ready to change to shrimp.
